Spells

One other creative activity I was going to do in class:

Please create and write a magic spell to end Winter and bring on Spring. Really. Send your spells to me via email or post them to the blog. Once we have them, we'll review and discuss. This is a language experiment and we'll see where it leads us.

  1. Bibbity Bobbity Boo, turn the sky from grey to blue!

  2. This from Guy:
    Here is my spell:
Marco Polo eating up a Rolo, cold when it does snow, uncomfortable like a stubbed toe, to ETSU a big woe, oh no, come again, then stop! the harm that does alarm, you must go and stop: you snow. Freezing temperatures are below desired, but above zero. Run away and scatter as if you were a tornado.Put the Luigi in the Mario and become obsolete like the original Nintendo.

  3. thought I posted this a couple of hours ago - but it's gone. Trying again but I don't think it'll come out as well this time.

I sing of the soul awakening

When seasons subtle shift from cold to warm does not come
When barren grip yields not to heart or hope
    I sing

And if gentle spring will not creep
then let it break, burgeon, blossom forth
with all the tempests, rendings, storms
    I sing
And with my song I call down the tumult of the seasons

because the soul must spring up
    I sing
because winter cannot rule too long
    I sing

I sing of the soul awakening
    to you, I sing

  4. To the snow:
    Going, going, back again
    Falling, falling, now and then
Leave us be and leave us quick

    For the sun:
    Waiting, waiting, waiting for you
    wishing, wishing, sky was blue
    welcome, welcome, shining one

  5. To Winter and its beautiful (yet tiresome) companion Snow:

    The Intro:
S is for the swirling snowflakes, slowly down they fell
N is for the phrase “no more” we bid snow now farewell
O is for only a few more days when snow can come our way
W is for winter now quickly passing in warm Spring days
    The Incantation:
Rise now snow, Rise now cold, Leave us all alone
Rise now winter, Rise now wind, be gone you bitter crone
Leave us to the Spring’s embrace
Let us feel its bright, warm face
    The Epilogue:
    We’ve paid our dues
    And watched the news
    We’ve endured the long delays
    But we’re tired of snow
    Now Winter must go
    Leaving, longer warmer days

  6. A Spell for a Change of Seasons: Appalachian Version

When shall you all meet again?
    In thunder, lightening,wind or rain?
When the flurries are all gone!
When the blizzard's frosts are done!
    Cold is foul and
    Warm is fair!
Let the warm and muggy air
    Descend upon hill and plain
    Welcome Spring's infernal rain!
    Anon!

  7. In my big boiling pot of ocean I add my mix,
    3 truck loads of salt,
    50 pails of sand,
1 surf, boogie and skim board,
as much rays of sunshine as will fit,
    a frisbee for extra flavoring,
with a football on the side.
Mix together vigourously until 83 and sunny with a slight breeze is reached.

  8. The temperature’s dropped down too low,
Again the forecast’s rain and snow.
Them other spells just didn’t take.
Let’s see what this old witch can make.

Squirm of worm beneath the crust,
From the crocus root some dust,
    Bitter smell of onion grass,
    Jonquil’s jaundiced yellow cast,

    Bubble, bubble, boil and chant,
    Stew you noxious stimulant.
(Now this here spring spell sure ain’t weak.)
    A latte for a power I seek.

    Wing oh sparrow bloody hued
From old crone’s hand this potent brew
To her, who long has hid her face
Within her dread Lord’s cold embrace.

    Persephone, get out of bed!
Shrug off your crown, Queen of the Dead.
Time for your second gig’s long past.
Quick, kick old Jack Frost in the ass!

Bust out and fire up the grills,
I see her striding o’er the hills.
It’s time to chant and cheer and sing.
Demeter’s child, come do your thing!
